Silk and Satins 5K ~ Trevor

by 11:06 AM

Hello,
My name is Trevor, today my sister and I ran a 5K which is 3.11 miles. I ran it in about 20 minutes and 13 seconds which is about a 6 minute and 32 second pace. The first mile felt alright but after that my quads started to hurt and I felt like I couldn't go any farther at the pace because of how slow I was going from heart rate training. I met up with one my friends at the finish and because it was so hot he did not have a good time ( I'm talking about throwing up more then once). Although it was hot out I survived and finished good enough for me. That's been it thank you for reading this short blog.

Silks and Satins 5K race ~ Kayla

by 9:59 AM
Hello everyone,
So today Trevor and I did Silk and Satins 5K race in Saratoga, New York. For breakfast I had a bagel with butter. We got to the race about a half hour early. Before the race my brother and I did warm ups that we do for track. When lining up Trevor went towards the front and I went towards back knowing I wanted to do a 10 minute pace. Once lined up I managed to be right next to a family friend which is pretty funny considering there was almost a 1000 people signed up for the race. I ended up taking the first mile out too fast which I do often so my time for that was a lot faster being an 8 minute 34 second mile. The next two miles which more consistent being 10 minutes and 18 seconds for the second mile and 10 minutes and 28 seconds for my third mile. I ended up doing a 9:42 pace which was what I hoped for even if my time wasn't under 30 minutes. My dad suggested to wear my heart rate monitor for the race also, so I did. My heart rate average was 188 and my max was 202. Overall the race was a lot of fun even though it got wicked hot towards the end. I would totally recommend the race especially if you like flat, fast courses.

Easy Day~Kayla

by 8:57 AM
Hello Everyone,
So today is supposed to be the easy day due to Trevor and I doing a race tomorrow, the Silks and Satins 5K in Saratoga, New York. I hope to go under a 10 minute mile pace at the race, fingers crossed.

So to start of my day I went for a 2.04 mile run. It took my about 25 minutes to complete doing a 12:31 pace. Both Trevor and I are doing heart rate training so its not about the speed in which we run but to be able to run at a constant low heart rate. So today I was suppose to keep my heart rate below 160 the whole run.

Once I got back home I did a core workout. I decided to do Beachbody's Hammer and Chisel, Chisel's 10 minute ab workout. I personally have a bit of a love hate relationship with core workouts but I absolutely love this workout, its my favorite one at the moment.

After that I did yoga. I love yoga and I usually go on youtube to look up different videos, personally I love Yoga with Adriene's channel and only watch her videos. Today I decided to do Yoga with Adriene's runner cool down video, (she has a great playlist of yoga for runners). Yoga is my favorite way to cool down after a hard workout or just to destress in general.

Easy Day~Trevor

Hello,
This is Trevor, Kayla and I had an easy workout today due to a race tomorrow July 23 2016. My workout today consisted of a 2.04 mile run and core workout. My run was at a 9:51 pace with one downhill from my house and one uphill back to my house. Kayla and I also do heart rate training so today I was suppose to keep my heart rate under 160.

After the run I did a core workout. The core workout was made by the company Beachbody and was named Hard Corps core 1, a 10 minute workout. I don't particularly like core workouts but this one is one of my favorites.

Also one last thing is the race Kayla and I are doing tomorrow is The Silks and Satins 5k race put on in Saratoga, New York. I hope to do the 5K in under 25 minutes.

Hill Repeats

by 12:53 PM
Hello,

So today's workout, courtesy of our coach, AKA our dad, was hill repeats. To start, we ran from our house down to what we call the four diamonds, which is about a mile run. The jog down was supposed to be at a pace that one could talk at easily. It took us about 10 minutes and 58 seconds at about a 12:35 pace. From there Trevor and I started the hill repeats. The elevation for the hills were about 222ft with a length of about .2 of a mile. The first two hill repeats I had a little trouble using my Garmin Vivoactive since I had just got mine - so they are a little off.

The first hill repeat took me about 2 minutes and 15 seconds to run up and 5 minutes 24 seconds to walk down. After the first time both Trevor and I could feel how hard it was and it just got harder after that. The second hill repeat took about 1 minute and 14 seconds to run up and 6 minutes 54 seconds to walk down. Third time it took a minute 55 to run up and 8 minutes and 14 seconds to walk down.

If you couldn't tell by how long the rest was we were both not feeling well after that one. For the last one it took me 1 minute and 54 seconds to run up and 2 minutes and 27 seconds to walk down to our water bottles. After the hill repeats we were obviously tired and since it's completely up hill to go home, we decided to walk instead of run. It took us 23 minutes and 13 seconds.

We are also doing heart rate training, so we were supposed to get our heart rates up to zone 4 or 5 and walking back down we were supposed to get back down to zone 1. My max heart rate for the workout was 187 and the average was 145.

About Us

by 10:04 AM
Hello!

My name is Kayla Dzikowicz and me and my brother, Trevor, are both really into triathlons. I am going into my Junior year of high school and I am 16 years old. Trevor is going into 8th grade and is 13 years old. Together we have been participating in triathlons for about five years.

We are on our high school's cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams, the Amsterdam Sea Rams competitive swim team and we are on the HRRT high school mountain biking (NICA).

Outside of sports, both Trevor and I strive to be the best students we possibly can be. We both are on honor roll and last year I was inducted into the National Honor Society. Also, Trevor is looking forward to be in National Junior Honor Society.

We hope to inspire other teens to participate in local triathlons, biking, running and swimming events.
